A Day in the Life of a Home Energy Advisor

Connecting With Our Community

A Day in the Life of a Home Energy Advisor: Go behind the scenes with one of our Home Energy Advisors, India, as she delivers free, personalised energy advice, supporting residents across Peterborough, Cambridge, and Rutland, and making a real difference, one visit at a time.

Starting the Day with Purpose (and Coffee!)

As a Home Energy Advisor (HEA) every day brings something new and inspiring. I’m fortunate enough to meet so many wonderful individuals from the Peterborough, Cambridge, and Rutland communities, each interaction filled with valuable discussions and shared experiences.

My mornings usually kick off with a cup of coffee whilst I prep for the day ahead. I check my notes and gather my thoughts, ensuring I’m ready to provide tailored advice to the residents I’ll be meeting. The connections I make and the stories I hear on home visits are what make each day rewarding and impactful.

Hitting the Road: On the Way to My First Home Visit

My role means I visit multiple locations around the city, allowing me to connect with a diverse range of residents. Each day begins with the journey to my first appointment, during which I ensure I’m well-prepared, not just with notes and insights, but with a carefully curated playlist or podcast to start my day off right.

Tailored Support for Every Home

Upon arriving at a resident’s property, I find that my prepared notes really come in handy. They help me to personalise each visit to really understand the specific needs and concerns of the individuals I’m meeting. It’s essential for residents to feel that I am truly here to help with anything and everything they’d like to know.

Building Trust Through Conversation

This personal touch not only fosters a sense of trust but also allows me to get to know the residents better and really build a connection. By putting myself in their shoes, I can offer assistance that is specifically tailored to their home energy needs. Whether it’s answering questions about energy efficiency or exploring switching options to reduce costs, I strive to provide valuable insights that empower them to make informed decisions and ultimately save them as much energy and money as possible. Each interaction is more than just a routine check-in; it’s an opportunity to grow relationships and ensure the residents feel supported and not alone. After all, at GES, our mission is not just to provide a service, but to be community leaders that local residents can rely on and trusted partners in their everyday lives.

Community Connections Beyond the Doorstep

When I’m not out on home visits, you’ll likely find me engaging in community outreach and events, striving to be a familiar face that you can recognise. I’ve attended events such as the Accent Summer fate, Kingsgate Food Pantry, Peterborough Food Banks, HOPE CIC. Your voices and stories matter to me, so if you ever see me around, please don’t hesitate to come over and say hello! I really look forward to our conversations and working together to make your life’s better and our community even stronger.
